Wind power
The wind blows at night and in winter.
A wind turbine produces when solar cannot, which is why the two go well together. Success depends above all on preparation: the wind at the site, the support of the municipality and neighbours, and the permits. That is where we start.
- ScaleFrom a single turbine to a small wind farm
- Within CZK 1 bnRoughly three to four modern turbines
- DevelopmentYears; the municipality and permits decide
- Our roleSite screening, permits, owner's engineer
Where wind stands a chance
On 27/07/2026 the government approved acceleration areas covering 297 km² in total, about 11 % of the area Czechia had earlier committed to the European Union. Of the 61 zones, 49 are for wind, with limits on turbine height. Municipalities remain parties to the building procedure.
Acceleration areas have shorter deadlines: 45 days for the environmental impact screening decision and 60 days for the building permit. Wind plants permitted after 01/08/2025 pay a levy of CZK 50 per MWh generated, 98 % of which goes to the host municipality.
Wind can be built outside the acceleration areas too, but the road is longer. Five new turbines went into operation in Czechia in 2025, and 24 local referendums were held on wind. That is why we start with the support of the municipality and the landowners, not with the choice of turbine.

What we do for you
- We screen the site: wind from the available data, distances from homes, protection zones, landscape, birds and bats, airports and radar.
- We prepare and evaluate wind measurement and calculate output with an uncertainty a bank will accept.
- We help with talks with the municipality, landowners and neighbours. Without their support a wind project in Czechia is very hard to push through.
- With partners, we handle the environmental impact assessment, the building permit and the grid connection.
- We run the tender for turbines and construction and help negotiate supply and long-term service with guaranteed availability.
- As owner's engineer we oversee foundations, the transport of oversized parts, erection and commissioning.
What to watch
- Output has to be proven by measurement. For financing, output is usually backed by measurement at the site itself, with a lidar or a met mast. The campaign has to be planned early.
- Turbines are tall. In Deutsche WindGuard's 2024 survey, a third of the turbines on offer were rated 6 MW or more and 45 % had a tip height of 200 to 250 m. That drives setbacks, landscape impact and transport of components.
- Investment. Adding the same survey's main and ancillary costs gives roughly EUR 1,750/kW in Germany, including foundations, grid connection and development. Czech costs may differ; a decision needs a quote for the specific site.
- Connection and licence. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the statutory deadline for connection is up to 5 years from a complete application at medium and high voltage. A plant above 100 kW needs an ERÚ generation licence.

Typical projects
| Project | Usual scale | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| A turbine for a business or municipality | 1 turbine, now up to about 7 MW | Own consumption, local support, setbacks |
| Small wind farm | 2 to 6 turbines | Acceleration area, grid connection, EIA |
| Wind with solar or a battery | Set by the connection capacity | Shared connection, smoother output |
Ranges are indicative. At German costs for 2024, CZK 1 bn buys roughly three turbines of 7 MW or four of around 6 MW.
FAQ
Wind: your questions.
How long does development take?
Years. It depends on whether the site is in an acceleration area, how quickly the municipality comes on board, how long wind measurement and permits take, and when the distributor connects the project.
What if the municipality says no?
We advise against starting without the municipality's support. It is a party to the procedure, and residents also decide on wind in local referendums. We help you prepare an offer for the municipality and neighbours and run the talks openly.
Is there enough wind here?
Only measurement at the specific site can tell. We first screen the site against available data and constraints, and recommend measuring only if it passes.
Do you also do small turbines for homes or businesses?
No. We do not develop small rooftop or domestic wind turbines.
