Solar power
Sun on the roof, on the field and above it.
Solar is a direct route to your own electricity. What matters is how much of it you actually use or sell, and when. We design the plant around your consumption and the grid, not around how many panels fit on the roof.
- ScaleFrom 50 kWp on a roof to tens of MWp on land
- Within CZK 1 bnRoughly 45 to 55 MWp of ground-mounted solar
- ERÚ licenceAbove 100 kW connected to the grid
- Our roleDevelopment, contractor selection, owner's engineer
When solar makes sense
You can buy as many panels as you like. The harder part is designing a plant whose output has a buyer at the moment it is produced. So we start with your consumption, the local grid and what you want to do with the power.
A company or municipal rooftop
The power is used in the building itself. Payback depends on how much energy you draw during the day.
Ground-mounted plant
Sales to the grid or a long-term contract with a buyer (PPA). The connection, the land and the sales strategy decide.
Agrivoltaics
Panels above crops or pasture, on land that keeps serving agriculture. A second income for farmers.
Car parks and canopies
Shade for cars, power for the building and for electric vehicle charging in one place.
What we do for you
- We size and orient the plant on your consumption and model output, self-consumption and grid export hour by hour, not as a yearly average.
- With partners, we assess the roof's structure and fire safety; for ground-mounted plants, the land, farmland protection and any environmental impact assessment.
- We file the connection application and negotiate terms with the distribution operator. Where the grid is short, we propose export limits or a battery.
- We write the technical specification, run the tender and help negotiate a construction contract with a performance guarantee.
- As owner's engineer we oversee construction and accept the plant on measured values, thermal imaging and string measurements included.
- Once it runs, we check output against the design and claim under the warranties when the plant falls short.
What to watch
- The grid is the bottleneck. At medium voltage the distributor may require a connection study, and the connection contract carries a non-refundable part of the connection contribution: 30 % or 50 % depending on how long the reservation lasted, capped at CZK 50 m. We size the plant to what the local grid can take. Where it falls short, we propose export limits, a battery or phasing.
- Older connection contracts have a deadline. Connection contracts and agreements on a future contract signed before 01/08/2025 for any facility not yet connected must be brought into line with the new rules on the non-refundable contribution within 15 months, or they lapse for that facility. This covers generation, storage and consumption at every voltage level, and the deadline falls in early November 2026.
- Most new plants now come with a battery. Of the 5,981 solar plants ČEZ Distribuce connected in the first half of 2026, over 87 % had a battery. We therefore model output and self-consumption hour by hour, not from an annual average.
- Licensing. A plant above 100 kW connected to the grid needs an ERÚ generation licence. Up to and including 100 kW it does not, provided the electricity is used on site or shared free of charge, no other plant is connected at the same supply point and the output receives no operating support.
- Agrivoltaics has strict rules. Decree 425/2024 Sb. allows only selected crops, such as vineyards, hop gardens, orchards and nurseries. Horizontal modules must sit at least 210 cm above the ground with at least 95 % of the area still farmable; for vertical rows it is 80 %, with rows at least three times the module height apart.
- Grants come with conditions. The Modernisation Fund call RES+ 1/2025 for solar with self-consumption took applications until 30/01/2026, covered at most 30 % of eligible costs and requires completion within three years of the grant decision.

Typical projects
| Project | Usual scale | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Business or municipal roof | 50 kWp to 5 MWp | Daytime demand, roof structure and fire safety |
| Ground-mounted plant | 1 to 50 MWp | Grid connection, land, route to market |
| Agrivoltaics | 0.5 to 10 MWp | Crop under the decree, grant for farmers only |
| Car park canopies | 0.1 to 3 MWp | Structure and foundations, EV charging |
| Solar with a battery | Tens of MWp and MWh | Shared connection, stacked revenues |
Ranges are indicative. At European prices for 2024 and 2025, CZK 1 bn buys roughly 45 to 55 MWp of ground-mounted solar; the real limit is usually the grid connection and the land.
FAQ
Solar: your questions.
Does solar pay without a grant?
It can. What decides it is how much of the electricity you use on site, what price of electricity it replaces and what the connection costs. We work it out from your quarter-hour data. A grant shortens the payback; it should not be the reason for the project.
Do we need an ERÚ licence?
For a plant above 100 kW connected to the grid, yes. Up to and including 100 kW you do not, provided you use the electricity on site or share it free of charge, have no other plant at the same supply point and receive no operating support. We prepare the licence application.
How quickly can we connect?
At low voltage the distributor must send a draft contract within 15 working days, at medium voltage within 30. Unless agreed otherwise, the statutory deadline for the connection itself is up to 3 years at low voltage and 5 years at medium and high voltage.
What if the distributor says there is no capacity?
It has to give reasons and offer alternatives, such as a lower output or a connection whose output can be curtailed. You then have 20 days to choose. We help you pick the option the project still works with.
